The apprehension stems from a recent television interview wherein Asif stated that Rawalakot—a city currently witnessing intense protests led by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC)—was "not Kashmir," and that he did not regard its residents as Kashmiris. Although he later attempted to ameliorate the situation on X (formerly Twitter), clarifying that "Kashmiriat is defined by the sacrifices and struggles waged over almost eight decades," the initial comments had already ignited a political firestorm. Parliamentary Discourse Addressing the charged assembly during the federal budget debate, Bilawal questioned the minister's political acumen. "There are certain ministers whose politics I do not understand," Bilawal articulated. "Instead of helping the prime minister, they create problems for him." The PPP chairman further challenged the coalition's integrity, asking why such a minister remained in the cabinet. "How is it possible for us to accept that a federal minister can say that the Kashmiris of Rawalakot are not Kashmiris?" he demanded, emphasizing the need for national unity during a period of significant geopolitical realignment. Conversely, the JAAC disputes this narrative, alleging that security forces deployed tear gas and fired live ammunition into the crowd after electricity was deliberately cut off, claiming seven civilian fatalities.
