Brazilian AI Legal Startup Enter Triples Valuation to $1.2 Billion in New Funding Round

In a seminal development for the Latin American technology sector, Enter, a Brazilian artificial intelligence startup specializing in the legal industry, has promulgated a new funding round that triples its valuation to $1.2 billion. This unprecedented milestone vaults the company into the upper ranks of global AI enterprises and marks it as Latin America's first AI unicorn.
The epicenter of the Investment
Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund led the $100 million financing round, with participation from prominent investors including Sequoia Capital and Ribbit Capital. This follows a previous co-led round by Sequoia and Founders Fund last year, demonstrating sustained confidence in the startup's trajectory. The São Paulo-based company develops AI technology to help major corporations, such as Airbnb Inc. and Latam Airlines Group S.A., manage the immense volume of consumer and labor lawsuits in Brazil, a country globally recognized for its highly litigious environment.
"Every step you can imagine in a lawsuit is first addressed by an AI agent before a human is brought into the process," explained Mateus Costa-Ribeiro, co-founder and CEO of Enter. Costa-Ribeiro, who was one of the youngest individuals to pass the New York bar exam, founded the enterprise in 2023 alongside Michael Mac-Vicar and Henrique Vaz, former executives at the mobile gaming firm Wildlife Studios.
MarketMomentum
Enter is part of a burgeoning wave of AI startups attracting massive investor interest by focusing on the legal sector. For context, US-based firm Harvey was recently valued at $11 billion, while Sweden’s Legora reached a $5.5 billion valuation. Major AI developers like Anthropic are also expanding their footprint into legal services, validating the sector's immense potential.
Costa-Ribeiro sees a distinct opportunity to dominate the legal AI landscape in Latin America. Matias Van Thienen, a partner at Founders Fund, echoed this sentiment, noting that the investment is a strategic bet on Enter's advantage in a uniquely litigious market. "We feel very comfortable with winning Brazil entirely," Van Thienen stated.
OperationalAchievements
The company’s technology can draft motions to dismiss cases, calculate legal settlement costs, and even investigate weather conditions mentioned in flight cancellation lawsuits. "The hardest part is ensuring we are integrated and connected to all the information sources we need to review," Costa-Ribeiro noted, highlighting the specialized engineers who work directly with clients to integrate the technology into legacy systems.
Enter currently boasts over 45 clients, including highly regulated sectors like banking, and recently surpassed managing 300,000 cases annually. Approximately 30% of its fees are contingent on case outcomes, with the remainder structured as an upfront technology usage fee. Many cases are resolved within two to three months, generating significant cost savings for clients.
Moving forward, Enter plans to utilize the new capital to expand its operations into other undisclosed regions and grow its team to 150 employees, up from approximately 100 today.
