PSX Rebounds as KSE-100 Surges Over 1,760 Points Amid Geopolitical Resilience

KARACHI:
In a resilient display of market fortitude, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) orchestrated a blistering rebound, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index surging by a formidable 1,766.97 points to close at 175,285.78. This robust advance, representing a 1.02 percent gain, signals that domestic investors have largely digested recent geopolitical shocks, opting instead for strategic bargain hunting.
Intraday Volatility and Sectoral Strength
The trading session was characterized by pronounced volatility. After catapulting more than 3,000 points in early trade to an intraday zenith of 176,701.38, the market experienced a predictable retracement as profit-taking materialized. Nevertheless, the index found robust support at 173,870.27, ensuring the benchmark remained comfortably in positive territory throughout the session.
"Buying interest remained heavily concentrated in foundational sectors, including commercial banks, cement, automobile assemblers, and oil and gas exploration companies. This sectoral rotation provided the necessary buoyancy to sustain the index's positive momentum until the closing bell," noted a senior market strategist.
Despite the index's gains, overall market breadth reflected a more measured participation. Total trading volume contracted to 583.8 million shares from the previous session's 912.6 million, with the total value of traded shares settling at Rs26 billion. Of the 495 companies traded, 361 advanced, 104 declined, and 30 remained unchanged, with K-Electric emerging as the volume leader despite a marginal price depreciation.
